Synopsis

Smith, a mob informer hiding out with the Witness Protection Program, decides to make a break for it and hide out in the Arizona desert. The Feds catch up with him and rescue him just before a group of hitmen can manage to silence him for good. In the course of getting Smith away from the mafia thugs, the pair of agents assigned to protect him turn onto an abandoned stretch of highway nicknamed 'Route 666' after the mysterious death of a prison chain gang. As the three continue on their way, they soon discover just what happened to the chain gang, and how the highway earned its name.

Copped this one on a Lou Diamond Philips kick. It's bad, but actually not as bad as I was maybe expecting. Feels very _Masters of Horror_, if you go in expecting that sort of material, it won't make _Route 666_ good, but there can be a time and a place for that. _Final rating:★★ - Had some things that appeal to me, but a poor finished product._

Surprising heart - poor execution Let's be fair; the casting of this movie is perfect the way it is. Even Sven-Ole gets to do his best Arnie-impersonation for a bit (he could have had more room in this movie, honestly), and everyone else is acting hard and straight, given the somewhat ludicrous premise. The movie did not pick up how to do actionscenes from other movies of its time, and relies on shakycam and manual recoils. It cheapens the experience considerably. The journey is nice, the setting gorgeous, and the acting great. It just looks and sounds cheap, that's all. I still recommend it.
